Via ESPN report, Zach Mettenberger has torn his ACL and will miss the bowl game, thus ending his career at LSU.
LSU has not verified the report yet, but most likely they will confirm this today. Other sources have rumbled about a torn ACL, as well.
What a sad & unfortunate turn of events for one of the best quarterbacks to ever don the purple & gold. He's only the third QB in school history to throw for over 3,000 yards and nearly unseated Johnny Manziel as the highest rated passer in the conference (he's second). Zach should be remembered for the great things he did for this offense in 2013. His play–along with the dynamic duo at WR–kept LSU in high-scoring games and led LSU to the best 3rd down percentage in all of college football.
Hard to say what this will do to his draft stock at this current juncture. A number of mock drafts have Mettenberger a strong first round pick. While I don't think an injury like this should affect a largely already non-mobile quarterback, it might cost him a chance at the top round.
Anthony Jennings will get the start in his place. We've already seen flashes of his talent, but it looks like we'll get to see him for a full four quarters a year earlier than expected.
