The 2014 LSU Tiger Band Reunion will take place on October 18th during the LSU vs Kentucky football game, the LSU Alumni Association announced in an email to band alumni this week.
The annual event is a huge draw for the Alumni Association, bringing over 250 former instrumentalists, Golden Girls and color guard members back to Tiger Stadium to perform at halftime.
Each year during the reunion festivities, the Alumni Band from Tiger Land marches onto the field in Death Valley for a special joint performance with Tiger Band.
When the two bands perform “Pregame / Touchdown for LSU”, there are nearly 600 current and former Tiger Bandsmen performing at the same time.
SPOILER ALERT: It’s loud.
Alumni of all ages participate in the event–from those who graduated in the 1930s to those who graduated in the 2010s.
Typically, the band reunion coincides with an out-of-conference matchup, but occasionally band alums are treated to an SEC clash.
The last time LSU played a conference opponent on band reunion weekend was 2011.
The top-ranked Tigers defeated Kentucky 35-7 that day en route to a dominant 12-0 regular season, an SEC championship and a BCS title game appearance.
If you’re superstitious about these sorts of things, then having the Wildcats and the Alumni Band in the house on the same day could be a milepost in an unforgettable season for LSU football in 2014.
